Intro to Cupping & The SCA Cupping Form

Thursday, September 12th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

This course gives a detailed guide for setting up and executing a great cupping in a professional environment, with thorough discussion and dedicated practice scoring coffees on the SCA cupping form. Open to the public, $50 registration fee. Sign up here.

Intro to Roasting

Tuesday, September 17th and Wednesday, September 18th

This class is intended to introduce the student to roasting concepts and the operation of a small batch drum roaster, and will introduce knowledge of basic roasting concepts and how to evaluate a roast’s success by cupping. This class is intended for enthusiasts and inexperienced roasters, and is open to the public for a fee of $650. Register here.

Calibrate Good Times! SCA Cupping Calibration

Tuesday, September 24th from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Come by The Crown for our friendly monthly calibration round!Together, we’ll cup six coffees using the SCA standard cupping form. Afterwards, we’ll put our scores up on the board and calibrate! This is a great exercise to perform with people outside your normal cupping group. This will be a formal cupping session, so be prepared to follow SCA Cupping Protocol. Sign up here!

Coffee Technicians Guild Espresso Maintenance Lecture

Wednesday, September 25th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

This lecture, hosted by the Coffee Technicans Guild, is for baristas looking to learn more about espresso machines, grinders, and when to contact a technician. Learn more and register here.

 

Cup Taster Calibration and the Coffee Quality Control Department

Friday, September 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The class will focus on exercises and training to achieve group agreement on a given standard when evaluating the sensory quality of coffee. Concepts ranging from cupper preparedness, tasting form familiarity, tasting revealed vs blind samples, and strategies for implementation will be covered. This course is designed for coffee professionals seeking improve skills related to quality control programs and elevate their sensory evaluation techniques, for a fee of $100.
